Osram overview information and core lighting divisions

OSRAM, headquartered in Munich, Germany, is a global leader in high-tech photonics, optical solutions, and lighting technology. Originally founded in 1906, the brand evolved from a traditional lamp manufacturer into a high-tech powerhouse focused on illumination, visualization, and sensing. In 2021, OSRAM was acquired by ams AG to form the combined entity ams OSRAM.

 

Core Lighting Divisions

  • Automotive Lighting: The #1 brand in vehicle lighting globally, offering a wide range of halogen, LED, and Xenon headlights, as well as signaling and auxiliary driving lights.
  • Professional & Industrial Lighting: Includes high-tech LEDs for indoor, outdoor, architectural, and horticultural applications. It also serves specialty markets like entertainment, medical, and UV-C purification.
  • Home & General Lighting: Manufactured by LEDVANCE, this portfolio features a wide array of LED lamps, smart lighting systems, LED tubes, and ceiling fixtures.

General Lighting (LEDVANCE)

Note that for standard home and building lighting, Osram spun off its general lighting division in 2016 into a separate company called LEDVANCE. LEDVANCE currently produces standard fixtures, smart home devices, and LED lamps, and operates the general consumer lighting portfolio using the licensed Osram name.

ams OSRAM and LEDVANCE extend global brand partnership into the next decade

Premstaetten, Austria, Munich and Garching, Germany, 5 September 2024 – LEDVANCE to remain exclusive licensee of the OSRAM brand for lamps in general lighting. In addition, the licensing partnership will be expanded to include luminaires in general lighting outside of P.R. China.
